Our Pop-up Experience at the Africa Centre has come to an end. However, by popular request we aim to host more Pop-up events this year so please check back for more updates!!

An unforgettable African culinary experience awaits you at the Africa Centre!!

The African Tapas and Café run by Waakye Leaf Afro-Fusion Caterers opens in Covent Garden, at the Africa Centre.  The café serves freshly brewed African coffee, teas and nibbles throughout the day and an African tapas taster from 12noon to 8pm in a relaxed, down-to-earth atmosphere.

The African café & tapas joint is a great place to grab a quick lunch, unwind after work (or shopping) and relax with friends to enjoy a world of flavour.

The African café & tapas joint aims to:

  • Bring people together by showcasing the exotic tapestry of flavours from different parts of Africa;  and
  • Provide visitors to the Africa Centre and passers-by with endless opportunities to educate and challenge their palates with great tasting food infused with African soul and passion.

What’s on the Tapas menu?

With a menu that changes often we ensure that only the freshest and finest ingredients are used in the preparation of our delicious dishes.  The tasty African delicacies on our tapas menu includes homemade African inspired salads &dips and well known favourites such as, Berber style stewed lamb, Mauritian duck curry, “Suya” chicken and lamb kebabs, West African Jollof rice, “Kelewele” spicy fried plantains, Peanut stew with mini rice balls, South African Babotie, Ethiopian “Doro Wat”, Algerian saffron and raisin couscous, Malawian batata balls, “Red red” black eyed beans stew and other African fare.

So what happens at the African Tapas Joint?

You will have the opportunity to select from an array of authentic African dishes. The plan is to make you master of your own platter so that you combine items from different African cuisines to create interesting combinations (you are encouraged to take a picture to post on facebook or tweet before tucking in).

Our warm and friendly staff will be on hand and happy to explain which part of Africa each dish is from and the ingredients used. If you ask nicely you might even be given a recipe card to try recreating/making your favourite dish at home. The current charge per person is £7.00.
